The 1963 Ferrari 275 GTB 1963 #6785 (lot 99) made its entrance
to loud applause. The car took part in over 40 international
races between 1965 and 1968, and appeared in the 1966 Ferrari
Yearbook after winning the Monza 1,000 km GT Class race the
same year. Bids flew in from the hall and by telephone, and at
the end of a long period of suspense, this particularly impressive
historic prize-winning car was sold for €2,502,811 / $2,728,052
including costs, a record for the model.
Another mythical racing car, the legendary 1938 Delahaye 135S,
was bought for €917,800 / $1,000,402 including costs. This
authentic 135 Special is one of 16 produced by the manufacturer. It
represents an important piece of the history of automobile sports,
having taken part in the 1937 24 Hours of Le Mans and a number
of other historic events, including the Alpine Trial and The Quail
Motorsports Gathering.
Formula 1 was also well represented: the impressive 1983 Ferrari
126 C3-068 (lot 98), shown in its original condition, sold for
€1,438,900 / $1,568,401 including costs, twice its estimated price.
